The
McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom was one of the most versatile
multi-mission combat aircraft every produced, with more than 5,000
built. It was designed as a Navy carrier aircraft (the F4H), but
it was quickly adopted by the Air Force and many foreign air forces.
The Phantom first saw combat in Vietnam
and continued on to see service in Desert Storm. There were many
models of the F-4, including fighter bombers, reconnaissance, and
electronic warfare versions.
McDonnell distributed patches to F-4
squadrons: "Phantom Phlyer" for pilots and backseaters and
"Phantom Phyxer" for maintenance personnel.
We saw this patch on the back of a Navy
G-1 jacket and decided to reproduce it. The patch is 14 1/2
inches tall by 11 1/4 inches wide. We make it from 6 colors of
leather, including the phantom's shadow and the Chinese type font,
which is cut and sewn by hand.
