| The 94th Aero Squadron was the first American
squadron to cross the French lines in WWI to fight over German territory. Its
commanders included air combat theorist Raoul Lufbery and Captain "Eddie"
Rickenbacker. Known as the "Hat in the Ring" squadron, its many aces flew
Nieuports and Spads after its arrival in France in 1917 and 1918.
During World War II the 94th flew P-38F's from bases in North Africa, Corsica, and
Italy. During the Cold War its pilots entered the jet age, flying F-86 and F-106
fighters.
First organized as the 94th Aero Squadron, it has also been
designated the 94th Squadron, 94th Pursuit Squadron, 94th Fighter Squadron and 94th
Fighter-Interceptor Squadron.
The squadron has been awarded the French
Croix de Guerre with Palm, the French Fourragere, and five Distiguished Unit Citations. |
