Activated
on 1 September 1944 as the 319th Troop Carrier Squadron (Commando),
it was assigned to the 1st Air Commando Group of the 10th Air

Initially stationed at Asansol
in India, the squadron operated from several forward bases in

At the end of the war, the squadron

stateside in December 1945.
The squadron flew the C-47 'Gooney

Central Burma, and the China Offensive.
The original squadron patches
were hand-made in India. Like many squadron patches in World
War II, it was never officially approved.

actor, was a pilot with the 319th Troop Carrier Squadron throughout
the war. His A-2 jacket with his squadron patch is on display
