In a ceremony at the White
House, the USAF Thunderbirds presented President Bush with
an official Thunderbirds leather A-2 jacket.
The President invited the
Thunderbirds to participate in a White House in honor of
Memorial Day. During a ceremony in the Oval Office,
the Thunderbird commanding officer presented the President
with an official Thunderbird jacket made from dark brown
goatskin with a handmade leather Thunderbirds patch on the
left chest.
The jacket was one of the Civil
A-2 jackets that the Air Force demonstration team pilots
wear as their official jacket. It was made by Flight Suits,
an El Cajon, California manufacturer of uniforms, flight
suits, leather jackets, and flying helmets. The
company also makes the Thunderbirds team uniforms, officers
flight suits, and their famous Thunderbird helmets.
The A-2 jacket worn by the
Thunderbirds is the same design as the Air Force issue A-2
jackets with added welt handwarmer pockets and inside wallet
pocket. The leather patch
on the jacket's left chest was made by hand from navy blue,
red, and white goatskin.
Flight Suits is America's
largest maker of flight suits, leather jackets, and flying
helmets. The company supplies U.S. and foreign
military, police, emergency medical companies, and aircraft
manufacturers with unifoms. The Civil A-2 with
handmade leather patch is available to the general public.
